Thoughts On The Past 24 Hours

Hufcdave gives his thoughts on the past 24 hours at Hereford United:

24 hours, three statements and countless talking points. Having clicked on Bullsnews I was surprised to see a statement from Andy Lonsdale. For a split second I entertained the possibility that Mr Lonsdale was announcing the ‘investment’ that was only a matter of 7 days away after the last High Court hearing had arrived. Not the case.

Firstly, let’s have a look at Mr Lonsdale’s initial statement that claims investment is ‘almost secure’. It is hard to believe that any investment would hinge on a potential meeting with HUST. If I was putting myself in the position of a potential investor, I would be more preoccupied with the fact that the local authority are signalling that they would like to take back control of Edgar Street, than the views of supporters that have been treated with absolute disregard since this debacle started.  That is unless of course these ‘investors’ are football men and have absolutely no interest in any development opportunities. I may be cynical, but the last 6 months lead me to believe that this is probably not the case.

Mr Lonsdale also makes a specific reference to Martin Watson, a board member of HUST, not just in his first statement but also the second. It seems that Andy Lonsdale has not grasped the basic concept and structure of HUST and the fact that the decision to go ahead with a boycott was the choice of its membership. The views of HUST are representative of its members, not a single board member. In his second statement, he completely ignores the open offer from HUST that the investors may want to speak to them directly.

In his second statement Mr Lonsdale stresses that ‘we are trying to build bridges’. A good start may be to introduce the owner of the club, Alan McCarthy, to the fans. This doesn’t have to be a public fans forum, a simple statement from Mr McCarthy would be a start, perhaps even a photograph so we can put a face to a name. Surely this isn’t too much to ask?

Over the course of the last six months, Andy Lonsdale has failed to deliver on almost every promise or claim that he has made. A cursory glance on social media or internet forums will show that the vast majority of supporters consider these statements by Mr Lonsdale as a poor attempt at discrediting HUST, and the prospect of ‘investors’ coming to the rescue as slim to non-existent.

In a week where the BBC are showcasing arguably the most iconic FA Cup goal and the greatest moment in our clubs history, his statements are just another indicator that this man is best off consigned to another page in our history books.
