Experienced referee Andy D'Urso is set to referee tomorrow evening's game between Port Vale and Hereford United. His last three games have all been at Championship level so it's quite unusual to see him taking charge of a League Two match.
Last season D'Urso referred the FA Cup game at Edgar Street against Hythe United which the Bulls won 5-1 and the time before was when the Bulls lost 4-1 at Portsmouth in the Carling Cup back in August 2009.
And whilst he did officiate at one of Hereford's League One games, against Stockport in October 2008 which the Bulls lost 1-0, he's probably better remembered for being in charge of the FA Cup match when Cardiff City knocked out the Bulls 2-1 at Edgar Street in January 2008.
However the last time he refereed an away game was at Fulham in October 1995 (he's been officiating a long time!) which ended goal-less.
According to the 'Bible' he didn't have a very good game.
The referee ruins the game with two non-sensical decisions. Downing goes for a tackle which hardly merits a yellow card and Blatherwick follows for an innocuous tackle on Conroy, his second bookable offence.
And it was just as bad the previous season at Chesterfield when D'Urso was in charge. Although this time it wasn't Hereford's players he dismissed.
United are dismal against a side down to ten men after 24 minutes and nine after 69 minutes. Eight other players were booked in the game and the Bulls lost 1-0.
To date this season D-Urso has taken charge of 34 games in which he has given out 97 yellow cards and 6 red cards.
