The Bulls travel to Priestfield on Saturday to face Gillingham in a League Two match.
Who can forget the Bulls' mauling at the hands of the Gills back in September? The 6-1 scoreline probably flattered Andy Hessenthaler's men, but it was a signal for change at Edgar Street with the hunt for a Director of Football beginning on the back of that match. Both the previous games in recent history, during the 10/11 season, were goalless draws with the Bulls' trip to Priestfield in April notable only for the eight yellow cards handed out by ref Paul Tierney.
The Gills are in the middle of a mini-crisis after conceding eight goals in just two games. After surrendering a 3-1 lead to lose 4-3 to Wimbledon, they capitulated by the same scoreline to Accrington. They have lost four of the last five League matches, including a 2-1 loss to Dagenham, and are slowly slipping out of the play-off picture. Former Bristol Rovers striker Jo Kuffour has eight goals in 15 games, while Danny Kedwell has 11 this term, six of which have come from the penalty spot.
The Bulls travel to Kent with no-one quite seeming to know exactly who is in charge of the team. The tactics displayed for the Accrington match at the end of December seemed to be a pure Gary Peters side, but in recent weeks a less direct style has been reinserted into the team as if Jamie Pitman was in control. With form on the road far better than at Edgar Street, the Bulls travel with a four match unbeaten run on the road to protect. That job is likely to be done without Harry Pell, who is yet to train this week.
