Hoardings Around Former Market

Hoardings are to be erected all around the now disused livestock market which is close to the Edgar Street football ground in the centre of Hereford.

The market was set to be dismantled starting last month but as usual with projects like this there have been delays.

This from Hereford Futures:

The hoardings will close off the site, making it safe and secure in advance of the start of demolition works.

Intensive archaeological analysis work, negotiation with key occupiers and contractor discussions are currently well underway in advance of construction work commencing.

Jonathan Bretherton, chief executive of Hereford Futures, said: “To allow us to begin work in earnest in the coming weeks, we are working alongside the developer, Stanhope, to ensure the site is thoroughly prepared and all the necessary legal and financial discussions are concluded.

“We’re excited as these are now nearing completion and the beginning of construction draws closer, and we thank our fellow Herefordians for their patience as we continue working hard to bring the city centre’s new retail and leisure development to life.”

Developers Stanhope said in 2008 that work would start in 2010.

Then in 2010 Stanhope said that it 'expects a planning decision in spring 2011 and would hope to be on site later in the year with a view to completion in spring 2013.'
