Former Bull Joins Blackpool As Goal-keeping Coach

Former Hereford United goalkeeper George Wood has linked up with Ian Holloway at Blackpool.

Wood has become the goalkeeping coach, working with first-choice Michael Gilks and his understudies.

"Michael is an extremely good goalkeeper," said Wood, 59, who still lives in South Wales and left Swindon in August.

George Wood made his Football League debut in 1971, before Hereford joined the League, but didn't join the Bulls until 1991, twenty years later.

The Scottish international goalkeeper joined Hereford aged 37 and he played a full season before retiring a year later.

His well-travelled career started at East Stirling, and saw him play for Everton, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Cardiff City and Blackpool before joining Hereford. He has four Scottish international caps.
