In his latest blog on the Football League website, former Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy wonders whether there is such a thing as home advantage anymore:
'Whatever happened to that funny old thing we used to call home advantage? It seems last weekend that adage went well and truly out of the window as we saw an unprecedented eight away victories from a possible 12. It was unbelievable stuff from visiting teams up and down the country.
These freak statistics happen from time to time of course but I do think that at this stage of the season there is a lot more pressure on the home teams to deliver three points. We all want to get our first home win safely tucked away at the first attempt but it's not as easy as it sounds. Perhaps that's playing a part in it.
I also believe that managers' tactics have changed in recent seasons with more and more coaches opting to use different systems on their travels. Almost every game I watch nowadays I see the away side using a 4-5-1 or a 4-3-3 looking to play counter attacking football. It seems to be working too.'
