News Round-Up

Southend chairman Ron Martin has blasted last season's relegated side for not being professional enough to want to win games despite not being paid on time by the club. The words accompany the latest set of financial results, for the 80/09 season, that show that the club lost £2million in a season they finished just off the League One play-off spots to take their total debt close to £8million. Martin also says that this season Paul Sturrock has been given half the wage bill of last season.

Crewe are to leave the bulk of their remaining contract talks until the end of the season as they are yet to decide a budget for next term. Five youngsters have already signed new deals earlier this season, but winger Byron Moore has stalled on his new contract and there are another half dozen players yet to be spoken to. Bradford say that defender Lewis Hunt will not play again for the club unless he renegotiates his contract. He is one game short of triggering a new 12 month deal on the same terms, but the club want him to sign a reduced deal instead with next season's budget likely to be cut.

Plymouth's office staff are to meet the local MPs in a bid to get some money. They have been paid just one months wages this year, and have been told they will get just 15% of May's wages on current finances. The club will get a £120,000 cash boost if QPR win promotion thanks to a clause in the sale of Jamie Mackie to the Loftus Road outfit. Burton boss Paul Peschisolido is expecting an FA charge after blasting ref Nigel Miller for sending off Sam Winnall last night. The Canadian told the press: "I think I'll probably get done because I've absolutely lambasted the referee"

Histon have denied speculation that they will accept voluntary relegation to the Zamaretto League after being relegated from the Conference at the weekend. Despite heavy debts they say they intend to drop into the second Conference tier, with Conf North their likely destination. Notts County boss Martin Allen said he made his team practice set-pieces 'in a field on the way down to Yeovil' prior to last night's loss.

Port Vale are investigating after two unnamed players were arrested during a night out in Stafford last night. The pair, and a third man, were detained after an incident that the Police are appealing for witnesses over. Southend have submitted plans for their new stadium that have shrunk from the original design. The number of flats on the development has halved, while retail space has dropped by 30%. They had already revealed plans to build only three sides of the ground initially.
