Former Hereford United goalkeeper Craig Sampson must have thought he might never play full-time again when last season he had to go part-time whilst at Ayr United. But an injury to St Mirren keeper Paul Gallacher has given a chance for Sampson to return to full-time work.
Whilst at Ayr Sampson worked for his father's building firm.
"I was leaving the house at six in the morning and getting home at six at night," Samson told the Scotsman.
"I wasn't doing it for long but it certainly made me think how fortunate I am to be a footballer."
Last July St Mirren goalkeeping coach Paul Mathers got in touch. And Samson has played in the last few games.
"I had always wanted to try England and played a few games for Hereford then needed an operation on my groin. While I was out the manager brought another keeper in so I came back up the road - it didn't work out the way I wanted it to but I wouldn't change the experience.
"But I'd love to settle at St Mirren after being at different clubs. My contract is until the end of the season but it's down to me to play well in the games and hopefully persuade the manager to give me a new one."
