Scunthorpe manager Nigel Atkins is said to have placed a £3M price tag on striker Gary Hooper following reports that several clubs are tracking him.
Hooper, who had an excellent loan spell with Hereford United in 2008, is seldom out of the headlines these days and last Friday the Mirror carried a story linking him with a £1.5M move to Bristol City.
However City denied the report.
"We are not in the market for Gary Hooper and we never have been," said a spokesman. "To suggest otherwise, is plain wrong."
Leeds United are another club who might move for Hooper. With Jermaine Beckford wanting to leave Elland Road, Hooper is said to be a possible replacement.
And this morning he is being linked with a move to Burnley.
Currently Atkins needs Hooper to help Scunny's battle against relegation which is why he's put the £3M price tag on the 21 year old. But there's little doubt that Hooper will move on at some stage.
Any striker with a return of a goal every other game is always going to be wanted. And any deal which brings in a seven figure fee for a striker who cost around £150,000 just 18 months ago is good business for a relatively small club.
