Preview: Burton vs Bulls

The Bulls travel to the Pirelli Stadium for their first Football League encounter with Burton Albion.

The two sides were regular jousters in the early 'noughties', spending four seasons together in the Conference as well as being paired in the FA Trophy and short-lived Conference Cup. While they won their last of four trips to the old Eton Park, the Bulls won their one and only trip to the Pirelli with Andy Williams scoring the only goal of the game in March 2006. In the Burton side that day was future Bull Kris Taylor.

After a shaky start, Burton have settled into a mid-table place in their debut League season. They have won four of eight home matches, drawing two more, and have kept clean sheets in their last three home League matches. Recent form has been poor, conceding two in scraping past Oxford City in the FA Cup before Saturday's 1-0 loss at Darlington. Finding a regular goalscorer is their current problem, with Greg Pearson top scorer with just four goals. One familiar name in the Burton line-up will be Tony James, who will make his 80th start for Burton on Saturday.

The Bulls are also a side in need of a regular goal getter despite recording just one defeat in ten games. Top scorer Marc Pugh hasn't scored since the end of September, Craig King has ten blank games since scoring on his debut, and Mathieu Manset remains sidelined for the final game of his ban. At least the defence is sorted, with just eight conceded in that ten game run, making the Bulls hard to beat.

Burton Albion vs Hereford United, Pirelli Stadium, Saturday 21st November, 3.00pm.
