News Round Up

Crewe are to sign a loan central defender before next weekend after turning down the chance to sign former loanee Dennis Lawrence. The veteran is a free agent, but wants to still play for Trinidad and Tobago meaning he would miss a number of games. Bournemouth have reported that their winding up order brought by the taxman has been dismissed after they cleared the debt.

Weymouth's fans were told at their meeting last night that George Rolls has offered to put £50,000 into the club while the other bidder, Chris Ryan, has suggested a £150,000 investment. Both bidders believe they can keep the club running without going into Administration but the club's former owner, Malcolm Curtis, has informed the board that he will submit a winding up order for monies owed if Ryan is sucessful.

Notts County's owners say they are examining a number of 'financial anomalies' after discovering problems in sorting out last week's winding up order. They say the problems relate to the finances prior to their purchase, but they weren't detected before due to the swiftness of the takeover. The Conference have said they extended Chester's deadline after the Football League asked for more time to respond to the Conference due to legal issues.

Swindon could be the next club to face serious financial troubles after property developer St Modwen was claimed to be preparing a winding up order against the club. The Guardian claims the company issued a statutory demand for payment that has gone unanswered. It is seeking £2.45million from a loan handed to the club in 2005. The Robins have already entered Administration twice, and a third spell could see them docked far more than the statutory 10 points.

Lincoln pair Aaron Brown and Ian Pearce, and Cheltenham keeper Barry Richardson, have been handed three match bans for their dismissals in the two sides' stormy game on Saturday. Imps boss Chris Sutton is also expected to get a charge after being sent to the stands.
