Former Bulls defender John Brough has been back to school to get his UEFA 'A' Coaching badges.
Brough, now Cheltenham's youth team coach, has spent two weeks on a residential course at Lilleshall alongside some big name players to get his 'A' badge, telling the Cheltenham official site: "It was a great experience and the 'A' Licence is another important career step for me.
"The most important thing was to learn and to gain the qualification but it was also good to meet a wide variety of people and make some more contacts. We were there for two weeks and would all have dinner and breakfast together so it was a good chance to get to know people. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in my group for some of the sessions so I spent a lot of time with him. He is now reserve team coach at Manchester United looking after their under-21 players and I'm hoping to go up there and watch a training session with them.
"I can see Gary Neville potentially becoming a top manager. He was very clear in what he said and there was a lot of detail to his coaching. Ryan Giggs was quieter but his demonstrations were very good and it's clear that both of them have picked up a huge amount of knowledge.
"There were some famous names on the course but also a lot of people from the lower divisions and everyone got together and helped each other out. That was pleasing to see because the well known players didn't just tell what they thought, they were quite open to other opinions and there was a lot of exchanging ideas and information going on.
"After the teaching days had finished we would sit around for hours talking about ways and methods of coaching so it was a very valuable experience and one that I hope will be of great benefit."
Brough spent four seasons at Edgar Street, two alongside Robins' boss Keith Downing, making over 100 appearances including scoring a famous goal against Spurs in the FA Cup in 1996. He moved to Cheltenham in 1998 and retired from playing in the summer of 2007 after a season with Newport.
