The Referee was correct says Mathias

MK Dons assistant manager Ray Mathias thought that referee Paul Melin made the correct decision by sending Hereford United's Steve Guinan off this afternoon at Edgar Street.

"If you look at it and think he was the last man then he has to be sent off and I can assure you Lloyd Dyer thinks he was in on the goalkeeper. So for me it was a goalscoring opportunity, he's denied Lloyd that so he's got to be sent off," said Mathias as reported by the MK Dons Official Website.

"It was hard to break them down after that, especially with them being the home. We wanted to play some football in the first half and when we did play we created one or two little chances.

"In the second half they tried to stifle us again with the 10 men and made it very hard for us but we're going to expect that a lot in away games now.

"We showed great professionalism right throughout the game. They put us under a lot of pressure in the first half but we defended well and I thought Willy Gueret was outstanding. He kept the score at 0-0 and we all say that's what he's there for but he did a fantastic job in the first half. We really needed him.

"You have to give Hereford credit, they came at us with a gameplan. They closed us down, they stopped us passing but we have said for a long time that we are top of the league and there to be knocked off.

"Teams will set themselves out to make life difficult for the lads and it was truly difficult for us today."
