Luke Rodgers has agreed to move to Port Vale from Crewe.
It is thought that Hereford had matched the transfer fee of £30,000 but Rodgers did not want to drop down a Division.
Meanwhile the possible move of former Hereford United mid-fielder Ben Smith from Weymouth looks less likely this morning as Weymouth chairman Martyn Harrison is reported to have made funds available to see his club through to the end of the season.
