Coleman still after Luke Rodgers

Accrington Stanley's manager John Coleman is said to be still hoping he can persuade Luke Rodgers to move from Crewe.

Rodgers has already rejected a move to Hereford. Crewe have agreed an identical offer from Swindon of around £30,000 but Rodgers has yet to agree personal terms.

"A fee has been agreed with Crewe but he hasn't moved yet. I still hope something can be done," Coleman told the Lancashire press.

Meanwhile Rodgers' agent, Mark Cartwright has been quoted by the Western Daily Press.

"I don't think anything is going to come of the Swindon interest. There are a couple of League One clubs who have shown an interest in Luke. Two or three teams have come in for him in the last few days and he's keeping his options open.

"This is all about playing football as far as Luke is concerned and he wants to stay at the highest standard he can," added Cartwright.

It would be surprising if Rodgers moved to Accrington as opposed to Swindon, who look probable promotion candidates from League Two.

In any case neither club may be able to afford Rodgers wages. A loan move from Crewe is beginning to look a distinct possibilty.

Update: Oxford of the Conference are also said to have enquired about Rodgers. However manager Jim Smith said he couldn't compete with the terms required.

"They wanted a substantial figure just to take him on loan", he explained. "Then there were wages, but we had been told that the player did not want to drop into the Conference anyway."
