Three Shrimpers possible doubts for Thursday

Three Morecambe players, Jim Bentley (leg), Garry Hunter (knee) and Danny Carlton (foot), are said to be possible doubts for Thursday's second leg play-off game. However manager Sammy McIlroy will give them as much time as possible to recover from their injuries.

"You are talking about the spine of the side, right down the middle, but we will give them every chance to be ready for the whistle at Edgar Street on Thursday," McIlroy told the Morecambe press.

"We always knew that we need a bench especially now we are in a critical part of the season. This could be their chance if those three don't make it."

The Shrimps felt that two decisions by the referee cost them a win last Sunday, but McIlroy says they have to get on with it.

"It is disappointing when a lot of people text you and Sky tell you what should have been, it makes you a little disappointed but I can't change that.

"We are going to be fighting against the odds down there.

"They were up against a hostile atmosphere up here and we have got to go down there to Edgar Street and do the same.

"We know what we have got to do. It is a one-off game and we have nothing to be afraid off."

Meanwhile McIlroy has put his side of the story when the two managers and the fourth official were seem shouting at each other after Alex Jeannin was hurt during the second half of the game.

Although not directly quoted, the paper says that Graham Turner told the referee 'his players wouldn't kick the ball out if an opponent was injured.'

"I thought that was very strange from an experienced manager to say that before the game. The ref can't make them kick the ball out of play except for a head injury," said McIlroy.

"Their boy was injured and he went berserk saying he wants him treated and I thought 'hang on a minute, you can't make the rules and change them just for you'.

"It was handbags at dawn really."

McIlroy said his players would usually kick the ball out of play if they saw another player injured.

"But if the other manager is saying no well I have got to play fair and tell the lads to keep the ball in play."
