Next Game: Away At Leamington In The League On New Years Day At 3.00pm

Expensive to watch Cambridge

The first away game of the season for Hereford United is a trip to newcomers to the Conference, Cambridge United. As it's a fresh venue for many Bulls supporters, it is a shame that Sky have decided to cover the game as that is bound to deter some fans from travelling.

In any case Cambridge is very expensive as Conference prices go. As well as either £12 for the terrace or £15 for the stands, there is a £3 charge to park.

However children MAY be able to get in quite cheaply as Cambridge have started a scheme to encourage children to support the club.

The U's have three home games during August, the first of which is against Hereford on Tuesday 16th August (kick off 8.05pm), and to celebrate surviving through a perilous summer the club have announced free admission to this match for all children accompanied by an adult.

The following guide is from the Official Cambridge United Website:

HOW TO FIND US BY CAR:

From North and West: follow the A14 towards Cambridge, Newmarket and Felixstowe. After the A14 and M11 divides, stay on the A14 to the third exit (s/p Cambridge B1047). Turn right at the T-Junction at the end of the traffic lights (s/p Fen Ditton, Cambridge Airport). Follow this road through the village of Fen Ditton to the next T-Junction at a set of traffic lights. Turn right here (s/p Cambridge). Straight on at the roundabout after 100 yards (s/p ring road) into Newmarket Road. The ground is on the left after approximately ½ mile.

From South: leave the M11 at junction 11 (s/p Cambridge A1309, Harston A10). Turn right at the roundabout (s/p Cambridge A1309). Straight on, at three sets of traffic lights, for 1.5 miles then right at the next set of lights (s/p ring road) into Long Road. Straight on at the next lights (s/p ring road) into Queen Edith's Way. Follow 'ring road' signs at the next five roundabouts into Newmarket Road. The ground is on the left after approximately ½ mile.

From East: leave A14 at A1303 (s/p Cambridge A1303, Burwell B1102). Turn left at the roundabout (s/p Cambridge A1303). Continue straight on for 2.4 miles, over a roundabout, two sets of traffic lights then another roundabout. The ground is on the left after approximately ½ mile.

Parking: there is a small car park next to the ground (charge £3) or limited street parking close to the ground.

By Bus: A number C3 bus stops within a few yards of the ground and runs from the Railway Station and through the city centre every ten minutes during the day.

By Train: There are regular services to and from Cambridge Railway Station, where taxis are available or the Citibus C3 service runs from the station every ten minutes during the day and hourly after 9.30pm. Check the Stagecoach website for more details and a timetable. To walk from the railway station to the ground could take 25-30 minutes, but if you want to do this walk away from the station along Station Road and take the first road on the right, (Tenison Road). Take the first road again on the right, (Devonshire Road), follow this round to the left, up to the next junction. Turn right - again - onto Mill Road. Walk over the railway bridge, then take the third road on the left, (Sedgewick Street). Follow this road, pass a set of traffic calming barriers, and shops (at this point you are in Cromwell Road) to a T-junction, (Coldham's Lane). Ahead of you should be a large field (Coldham's Common). Go into this field and follow a path under the railway bridge to the away turnstiles.

Food and Drink: There is a selection of food and drinks available at the tea bars inside the ground, including our award-winning bacon rolls. The most popular haunt for away fans after their journey is The Greyhound on Coldham's Lane as it's near where the away fans' coaches drop off and pick up. Food is served all day here. For chip fans, 'The Chippy' on Newmarket Road is always popular. This is a few minutes walk in the direction of the town centre (turning left from the front of the ground.)

For most games, away fans are accommodated in the southern end of the Habbin Terrace - priced £12 (£8 concessions). To get there from the Greyhound pub, simply follow the path across Coldham's Common and use the 'Habbin South'
turnstiles.Alternatively, if you are approaching the ground along Newmarket Road, take the footpath just to the town side of the ground, along the back of the Habbin Stand to the same turnstiles. The south end of the ground was redeveloped during the 2001-2002 season and the new South Stand may be allocated to away fans for certain games (see the Tickets News page for details about specific forthcoming matches). The South Stand is adjacent to the south end of the Habbin Stand and directions to the new stand are the same as those above, but use the 'South Stand' turnstiles. Admission is £15 (£10 concessions).

WATCH OUT FOR: The bacon rolls served in the tea bars. They were voted 'Best in the League' by Colmans and the Club's office staff, working a long shift due to an evening game, have been known to scoff them by the dozen!Marvin the Moose - kicking a football whilst wearing oversized antlers and preposterously large boots is never easy at the best of times. How much more difficult then when a crowd of cynical football fans is watching?
