Jeannin: Better chance of promotion at Edgar Street

Alex Jeannin has told the Exeter Express and Echo that he feels he has a better chance of promotion at his new club than he would have had at Exeter. Although he has backed his former team mates to go one better than they have done in the last two seasons and make the play offs, he feels that his new side Hereford will also go one better and win automatic promotion.

"We want to win the league, there is no doubt about that. The manager has said it is now or never really because we have such a good squad. The atmosphere at the club is very good, we have a young squad but with some quality players who have lots of league experience."

The Frenchman says that the pre-season has been very successful and that the squad is now ready for the Conference kick off this Saturday against Scarborough. "Our pre-season has gone very well and we have had some good results. Everyone is fit and looking forward to getting started on Saturday."

However, he is refusing to let himself and his new team mates to get too ahead of themselves with the news that they are the favourites to take the championship this season. "We are the favourites, but players do not pay too much attention to that, although it does mean there is a bit of pressure, but sometimes it is good to play under pressure."

Jeannin went on to say that there is one particular fixture he is looking forward to in the campaign, the last one of 2005. "It will be nice to come and play at St James's Park - but also a bit strange because I had such a great time at Exeter, and the fans were always very good to me. I have put a cross next to the match on the fixture list so I know exactly when it is, but of course I will be coming back as a Hereford player, and looking to do all I can to help Hereford get three points."

"At Exeter for the past two seasons I was very confident we could get promotion, but we missed out on the play-offs on the last day each time and that was a huge disappointment for me - maybe we just needed that little bit of extra luck."

"I think perhaps I have a better chance of promotion here than with Exeter because of the squad the manager has put together. But I am sure Exeter will have a strong season, they have quality players and a good manager, and I think they will be top-five this year."
