News round up

Keeper Callum Hawkins has left Leamington

Alun Armstrong has been appointed as the new boss of National League side Gateshead, the former Middlesbrough striker's first role since leaving Darlington in 2023.

Armstrong replaces Carl Magnay, who resigned after Gateshead's disappointing end to the season meant they missed out on a place in the National League play-offs.

Leamington have lost the services of the keeper Callum Hawkins. He has decided to leave the Warwickshire side.

The club said: "The 25-year-old has been a firm fans' favourite, earning many points for the team with some fantastic saves, and along with his parents Jackie and Gavin, who have attended pretty much every one of his 132 games, Callum has truly brought into the whole ethos of the club."

Troubled Farsley Celtic are set to have new owners with the Stockdale family, which includes the club’s current manager and former Fulham and Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale, agreeing to buy it for an undisclosed sum.

Relegated from National League North and dumped in step five due to off-the-field problems, if the sale goes through, it will bring an end to Paul Barthorpe’s ownership after six years at the club.

Hartlepool United defender Dan Dodds has signed with National League North side South Shields. After joining Pools from Darlington in January 2023, Dodds made 47 appearances. He initially impressed with two goals in his first six games but faced setbacks, including an ACL injury and multiple hamstring issues, which limited his impact.

South Shields manager Ian Watson, who admired Dodds during his loan at Darlington, expressed excitement about the signing, viewing it as a statement of intent for the club's future ambitions.

National League North newcomers Worksop Town have lost Luke Hall to National League Woking. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who came through the ranks at Sheffield Wednesday, was a target for Woking in January but they were unable to complete a deal.
