Hereford edged 4th placed Aldershot 1-0. Despite Hereford's recent upturn in form the match was watched by a surprisingly low gate of 6667; the lowest of the season so far. £6500 record signing David Rudge scores the decisive goal in the 34th minute, his first for the club after signing from Aston Villa.
On the Pitch: Addison reflects on a disappointing FA Cup defeat at Torquay the previous Saturday. The programme also features a rarity, photos from an away fixture. If you had to mark this season down (the slow start aside), it was the lack of progress in either of the main cups. Hereford though could be forgiven for failing at their first ever attempt in the League Cup earlier in the season after being drawn away to Aston Villa.
Starting the day in 15th, this win would see Hereford go up to 13th, helped by impressive recent league form of WWDWDW. In contrast to Aldershot who had the best away record in the division Hereford were yet to win in the league away from home though after 10 attempts LDLLLDLLDD. An away fixture at high flying Newport County lay in wait the following Wednesday.
Off the Pitch: I assume that they remained off the pitch, but Phil Godsall uses the Supporter's Club Jottings to complain about a small minority (50) of Hereford fans who were unruly both during the recent FA Cup game away at Torquay and when using the two special trains that were laid on. Trains that transported 1200 of the impressive 2000 away following that were present in a crowd of 4851. On a more positive note the club have received confirmation from the Brewery that they will help finance a new social club; this would go on to be the complex located behind the Block D end of the main stand.
In Bits and Pieces fans were being offered an opportunity to have their name inscribed on one of the seats in the new grandstand for the princely sum of £5.
In the Opposition: Born in 1948, Right Back Richard Walden packed plenty into his 61 years before sadly passing away in 2009. Peaking early, he was born in Hereford, before going onto play over 400 games for Aldershot by the age of 28. He laid down a further 100 appearances after a move to Sheffield Wednesday before being transferred to Newport County, a transfer that would be the first ever decided by a transfer tribunal. His four years at Newport coincided with the most successful period in their history. In total he played over 650 senior games.
