News round up

Krystian Pearce
Former Hereford defender Krystian Pearce has dropped down two divisions as he joins Alvechurch. The 34-year-old former Mansfield Town and Notts County centre-back left Hereford at the end of the 2021/22 season to join Kidderminster Harriers.

Known as 'The Chief', Pearce was with Harriers for their disappointing National League campaign last season and was offered "offered terms to join the backroom staff in a coaching capacity". Step three Alvechurch said the signing was "a major coup for our football club and a real signal of intent".

Forward Aaron Martin, who was released by South Shields this summer, has joined Northern Premier League side Worksop Town. Martin made 44 League Two appearances for Harrogate Town between 2020-22, scoring five goals and last season made 41 National League North appearances for the Mariners, scoring 11 times.

The former National League play-off and FA Trophy winner joins Craig Parry’s Tigers as they look to add more quality to an attack that scored 72 league goals last season, the league reported.

King's Lynn Town manager Adam Lakeland has made his third signing of the summer, bringing in left-sided defender Freddie Sass after his departure from National League North newcomers Marine.

Lakeland tried to sign the player during his time in the dugout at Curzon Ashton and said: "He's good size, he can move and run, has a good turn of pace and can get up and down the pitch."

Scunthorpe United's longest-serving professional player Alfie Beestin, 26, has signed a new deal. First signing in January 2020, the club said "Beestin used his experience that he’d gained with Doncaster Rovers in the years previous to break into the Iron squad and has kept his place ever since".

Despite last season’s campaign being plagued with injuries, the attacking midfielder "battled through and firmly grasped his opportunities when given" by scoring four times in 22 appearances - including a "tremendous, long ranged effort on his weaker left-foot" against Hereford.

Southport fan favourite Marcus Carver has penned a new deal with the club. The club said the forward had "a number of options but has always said how much he enjoys being at Southport and is delighted to be back looking to add to the 35 goals he already has to his credit for the club".
