In an interview with BBC Hereford and Worcester, Hereford chairman Chris Ammonds has clarified the club's position over possible promotion.
There is a view that the club isn't ready for promotion partly due to the finances at the club. They have improved recently but from a very low base last May.
"I can catigorically state I would be very interested in promotion and the club is very interested in promotion,"said Ammonds.
"But equally it's so tight, there's a lot of teams fighting for it.
"Now we find ourselves here we would be foolish not to try and have a go at it.
"We've given the manager a bit of extra support to try and consolidate.
"We've got to give it a go."
So given where Hereford are in the league how much planning is being done for next season?
"It's got to be thought about.
"Paul (Caddis) has been thinking about it, we've had conversations about it.
"The unknown about which league we will be in doesn't help the situation.
"They are conversations that are happening all the time because my belief is that we have to get better at foward planning, we have to have more of a strategy about how we are going about things.
"We have Aurio (Teixiera) on a two year deal, Lewis Hudson has come in and been fantastic, we've already got him secured for next year.
"So the initial stage of that has started and we've got to be thinking about it all the time.
"It can't be as Paul would say, you can't rebuild an entire squad every summer. He's done it once and done it fantastically well but you don't want to go through that process every summer. It's no way to run a football club.
"It comes down to budget, where we finish, how the gates are going to be between now and the end of the season. It all has an impact on the planning.
"And then it comes to the big one, which league are you planning for.
"It's not straight forward, I knew it wouldn't be straight forward but it's even less straight forward than I thought it would be when I took on the role."
