Darlington part company with Gowling after another loss for struggling side

Josh Gowling has been sacked by Darlington

Former Hereford FC manager Josh Gowling has been relieved of his duties by Darlington.

His side were on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline at Scarborough and it's the latest in a run of poor results for Gowling.

In a short statement, Darlington said: "Following our 2-0 defeat at Scarborough today, Darlington FC have regrettably parted company with manager Josh Gowling. We would like to thank Josh for all his efforts since he was appointed in September.

"We will make an announcement about the ongoing position in due course."

After the Boxing Day game, there were chants of "we want Gowling out," and "get out of our club" from some of the visiting fans at Scarborough.

Local journalist Craig Stoddart, of the Northern Echo, said: "He has been a disastrous appointment and must go immediately, while there's still time, if the club wish to have any chance of avoiding relegation."

Since Gowling was appointed in September - replacing Alun Armstrong - he has won only three games of his 16 games. He leaves the Quakers 23rd, two points ahead of bottom side Bishop's Stortford. Though that said, Bishop's Stortford claimed their only away win of the season so far at Darlington earlier this month.

Over recent weeks there have been growing calls from Darlo fans that they wanted the board to act and sack Gowling, who had been out of management since leaving Edgar Street in February.
