Banbury boss hoping players can recover for Hereford on Tuesday

Then-Hereford captain Jared Hodgkiss leads the team out at Banbury last season
Banbury United's boss hopes his players can recover from a hard-fought 2-1 win against Tamworth.

The Oxfordshire side travel to Edgar Street on Tuesday after their win saw Tamworth fall from the top of the National League North table – a spot they've been holding onto for weeks.

Banbury nicked a goal against the run of play in the 72nd minute through Adi Yussuf but could only hold onto the lead for a minute as former Bull Jordan Cullinane-Liburd levelled the score.

It was then deep into seven minutes of stoppage time another former Hereford player got his name on the scoresheet and bagged the winner. Midfielder Simeon Maye netted his first goal for the club and secured all three points for Banbury.

It means the Puritans have now won their last three away games and sit 11th in the table. That's six places above Hereford but they only have an extra point.

Boss Mark Jones was understandably thrilled at the result but admitted Tuesday's visit to the Shire will be tough.

Admitting it would be a tough test, he said after Saturday's game: "I don't want to sound like a broken record but they don't come easy, do they?

"It's going to be a tough game for us. Hopefully, the boys can recover well because we've had to put an awful lot of effort into that game.

"Let's enjoy the victory because the way we won it there is a great feeling. Let's enjoy tonight and then tomorrow we can start analysing Hereford."

Mark Jones was appointed as the new Banbury manager in June, taking over from Andy Whing, the former assistant Hereford manager under Russell Slade, who quit two weeks earlier.

Jones has previous experience at Oxford City and Hemel Hempstead.
