Hereford find themselves a goal down at Chester at half time and will be desperately searching for a goal in the second half.
A spot kick for Chester saw them take the lead, with a sliding Adam Livingstone was judged to have fouled young full-back Kieran Coates, tripping him as he burst into the box.
Up stepped former Kidderminster Harriers midfielder Declan Weeks to convert, giving the hosts the lead going into the break.
Livingstone, starting ahead of Jordan Cranston, has created some half-chances for Hereford, but Chester have had the best of the chances. The closest they game to scoring from open play saw Kole Hall forcing Curtis Pond into making a good save from a tight angle and having a couple of efforts miss the target.
Pond was then called into action in first-half stoppage time to deny Kevin Roberts' strike from a free kick.
Once again, Hereford have a big 45 minutes ahead of them. They really need to find a goal to avoid their fifth straight league defeat, but with Jason Cowley and Andy Williams still out injured it's proving a big ask.
