From The Archives - Ceesay Scores Against Hereford

Hereford added Yusifu Ceesay to the squad earlier today.

Back in April 2022 he scored at Edgar Street against Hereford whilst playing for Alfreton.

A look back:

With time added on for timewasting Hereford had a free kick in their own half towards the halfway line. Pollock was going to take it but then chasing the game it was decided Hall would hoist it in so Pollock and Pearce could go forward. Brandon hit it deep, but captain Rhead headed it away and Southwell knocked a classy pass to Ceesay on the left who surged over the halfway line without a challenge from Hodgkiss and almost stumbling as he reached the box with Hall advancing and stabbed the ball past him into the net to double the lead.

If ever the situation cried out for a tactical foul near the halfway line this was the occasion. Other teams in the play-off positions are shrewder. Ceesay troubled Hereford at Alfreton and he had shown his pace earlier in the half, so he was the obvious danger man who was not picked up. A very poor goal to concede.

UPDATE

Ceesay impressed for Alfreton against Hereford in October 2021 Son of Eric reporting:

Alfreton then broke up the left and fed winger Ceesay who easily beat Andoh and fired a low cross along the six-yard line for the unmarked Hobson to tap in at the far post. A couple of minutes later Andoh was again beaten by Ceesay, but his cross was cleared. Hereford bounced back well and went into their customary mode of looking good in possession without cutting through. Andoh was finding Ceesay a handful.

but later in the match….

“The game had turned and Fini who had come on as a substitute had done a masterful job in neutralising Ceesay. Fini got tight and used his pace to neutralise the most dangerous player for Alfreton in the first half. It was a mark of Fini’s impact that Ceesay was substituted for Reeves.”
