Caddis surprised by desperate Cowley being fit to face King's Lynn

Jason Cowley
Hereford manager Paul Caddis has admitted he was surprised that Jason Cowley was fit to play in this afternoon's 2-2 draw at King's Lynn.

The striker was a surprising name on the team sheet, with fans previously hearing how Cowley was likely to miss the season opener.

While Alex Babos scored the opener, Cowley scored the equaliser to make it 2-2.

But Caddis said Cowley was in a lot of pain last week and pyshios said he was likely to be out for up to two weeks.

Day 15 was Wednesday, Caddis said, and Cowley was desperate to play.

He then passed fitness tests.

Caddis said: "That's just a mark of the character the man is, and obviously he was a nuisance you can see why I was desperate to get him on the pitch."

On the goal, he said: "He just works tirelessly, runs to press the goalkeeper from 40 yards, and creates a half a chance just by his sheer work ethic.

"I told him at half-time, and I'll continue to tell him, I don't want him coming towards the ball, I want him to use that space, keep getting him behind.

"His goal was brilliant, it's a brilliant piece of work, cutting side, it's a brilliant finish."
