Kane Thompson-Sommers’ goal was enough for Hereford to beat
Kettering and reignite their play-off hopes.
The Bulls midfielder was on hand to sweep the ball home after
Miles Storey had nodded the ball into his path.
Hereford started brightly. In the third minute, good work from
Thierry Latty-Fairweather found Storey, but the Bulls striker was unable to
control the ball. Then just a minute later, Ryan McLean’s effort was saved.
Jimmy Knowles was Kettering's main threat and he shot wide in the
sixth minute. On the 20-minute mark, Levi Andoh cut inside before seeing his
effort saved for Hereford, before Owen Mason saved from McLean.
Andoh had another shot on goal in the 30th minute while, four
minutes later, Mason tipped Jamie Egan’s header over the bar. Hereford
finally broke the deadlock through Thompson-Sommers 10 minutes into the second
half, much to the relief of the majority of the 1,876 in attendance.
The home side had a great chance to seal the win in the 77th
minute, but Mason made a great save to deny Storey. The Bulls striker went
close again six minutes from time, but his shot rattled the crossbar, while in
stoppage time, Knowles had a rare chance for Kettering.
The win puts Hereford to within four points of the play-off
positions, and they go to seventh-placed Chorley on Tuesday night.
