March Is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

RadioHerefordFC’s Frank Williams shares his story.

Two years ago, on the 11th March we lost our daughter, Rebecca (Bocca), to this disease. It takes 11 women every day in the UK and destroys the lives of those left behind.

Early diagnosis and intervention can save up to 90% of the 1 in 50 women who will suffer from Ovarian Cancer at some point in their lives.

My family and I have worked to raise awareness and funding for the work of the Target Ovarian Cancer charity over the past two years. It gives us a motivation to get up every day.

The Club has generously agreed that our home match on the 11th , against Telford, will be used to bring to your attention the work of TOC and make you all aware of how you, man or woman, can spot the early signs and avoid the heartache that we have endured.

TOC fights on many fronts, early diagnosis, research and support being the areas that ‘Bocca’s Legacy’, our network, set up in our daughter’s name, is dedicated to support.

Next week we will make available, through the Club Website and Social Media, links to documents that you can download to provide you with information on recognizing symptoms, and saving lives.

We will also be asking for your financial support through a Hereford FC / Bocca’s Legacy Just Giving page, to help us continue the fight against this disease that is being carried by over 40,000 women in the UK, with over 7,000 new cases every year.
