Darlington manager Alun Armstrong wrote in their programme against Hereford yesterday…
“Some people are wondering why we haven’t managed to bring in a striker before now - I can assure you that we are trying our hardest. We have made offers for players, but for various reasons they have turned us down. We were interested in a player from a higher league, but he didn’t want to drop down to a part time club.
I asked about a player who has been playing in our league, but he decided that he wanted to drop down a level for more money. I made an enquiry about a player at another club in our league but he wants to stay put.
Some other clubs think we are made of money, but we’re not, and as I have said several times since Mark Beck left, we have to make sure that we are sustainable. I won’t pay out huge wages to put the future of the club at stake.”
Darlington have a lower playing budget than Hereford but look likely to finish comfortably ahead of the Bulls.
