Fylde hit the post after four minutes after being awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Nick Haughton’s effort bounced off the woodwork to give Hereford an early scare, as the away side piled on the pressure.
Despite all the Fylde possession, Hereford took the lead midway through the half. Tyrone Barnett was pulled back in the box, and coolly dispatched the resulting penalty at the Blackfriars End.
Fylde tested goalkeeper Dale Eve towards the end of the half with a tricky ball looped into the far post, but the Hereford stopper was equal to it.
