The 'Goal' Is Returning To The Courtyard

Hereford’s The Courtyard has announced the cast for its 50th anniversary staging of The Goal! which relives the story of Ronnie Radford’s sensational goal in the FA Cup third round tie against Newcastle United.

The production premièred at The Courtyard in 2018 and returning to the cast is James Holmes. Best known as Clive in the BBC sitcom Miranda, Holmes will again play Bob, a “fastidious lad who takes his responsibilities as a Hereford United ball boy incredibly seriously”.

Also returning are Matthew Booth as Yorkie and Kate Powell as kind and stoical teenager Danielle “Dan” Beech. Joining the cast are actor and stand-up comedian Blake Aidan, Ashley Sean-Cook and Gareth Radcliffe.

The Goal! looks at the FA Cup tie from the perspective of six ball boys. The cast will also portray a host of other characters in this comedy that celebrates one of the most monumental seasons in Hereford United’s history.

Chief executive and artistic director of The Courtyard Ian Archer who is directing the production said, “casting the company has been a wonderful experience and every character has an individual significance to the play. The cast are coming to The Courtyard with distinguished acting careers through stage and screen and I’m looking forward to working with them on this unique and very special production.”

The Goal! will run at The Courtyard from Friday 9 until Friday 16 September.
