Joys Of A Hereford FC Season Ticket

Simon Wright encourages Hereford supporters to buy a season ticket.

'Season ticket sales matter to HFC.  More than just a number (currently 350 and counting), pre-payment offers financial certainty for the season, figures to light up our club bean counters.  But more seriously, the whispers I hear each season suggests the playing budget is “influenced” by pre-sales.  A decision-making bedrock if you like.

As a summer payer, you’re one of the elite.  That’s your statement of commitment to be at the widely admired Edgar Street.   Or for a few exiles, they’re committing to not going but still want to do their bit.  Simple support for our minority fan-owned club. That card you’ll be picking up before the first kick-off is a symbol of that support.

Let’s not kid ourselves. We’re not signing up for Anfield, our football club has limitations and often faces dour opposition. Supporting Hereford is character building and vocabulary expanding.  And yet, football is as much about being with your mates in familiar locations as the action on the pitch. That shared experience. ‘Mates” is a fluid term at the Street where we pretty know each other by face if not name.  We all rub along pretty well.  On occasions, I’ve taken 20 minutes to walk the car park behind the main stand such are the number of folk wanting to say “Hello.”  I’m sure that’s not just me.  The people – our people – matter.

And yes, in bare financial terms, handing over a lump sum next month as the gas prices rise faster than Premier League salaries, isn’t easy for many and not that easy to justify.  But on an emotional level, an historic level, even an irrational level, it works plenty well. If you possibly can, treat yourself up front to nine months of the best escapism in the world.  At the same time, you’re doing your bit to preserve the beautiful game in the city for future generations.  You know it makes supporter sense.'
