This from Fair Game:
'At 9:52 yesterday morning, Jessica Morden, Labour MP for Newport, posed a question
in the House of Commons during DCMS questions. She said: “Newport
County AFC are a leading Fair Game club and a great example of how
supporter ownership can bring sustainable financial and governance
structures and excellent community engagement, which is certainly true
in County’s case “With this
in mind will the minister meet with Fair Game to discuss their
Sustainability Index proposal to overhaul the parachute payments system
and reward responsible clubs who demonstrate that they put their
supporters first?” Rt Hon
Nadine Dorries MP, The Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media
and Sport (Mid Bedfordshire, Conservative), replied: “Madam Speaker, the
regulator will be tasked with improving the way clubs are financial and
operationally run, improving corporate governance and financial
oversight which will great reduce the likelihood of financial distress
and make football much resilient and sustainable for the long term. And
my honourable friend, the minister responsible for this area, has
whispered to me on the bench that he would be happy to meet you.” We are now working with Jessica to fix a date. In
the meantime, if you haven’t already do reach out to your local MP to
ask them to support us. Follow our easy two-minute step-by-step guide here.
A great way for them to show their support is to pose with our
selfie-board currently in the office of Alan Whitehead at Westminster,
check here for current political support. And of course do contact your local councils as well using our guide here.'
