Whatever the pros and cons of them more National League clubs are moving to 4G pitches.
Last Monday Hereford travelled to Gloucester whose games are played on 4G.
Leading the way in moving to 4G is the National League South.
By the start of next season it's thought around half of the clubs in that league will have 4G.
Given that the weather is usually better in the South than the North it may seem a somewhat surprising move.
But on the other hand the potential revenue from being able to use 4G pitches in all weathers plays a big part in any decision.
How long before more clubs in the North go 4G?
