Gowling Pleased With Performance Against Brackley

Hereford Manager Josh Gowling spoke to Keith Hall after tonight's 2-0 victory over Brackley.

"We knew what kind of team Brackley were, what they've been like over the years," said Gowling.

"They've probably been a bit more attacking than what they have been so we didn't want to give their back three players time on the ball, we didn't want their wing-backs on the ball either so we had a real high press and that's probably the best we've pressed all season. So I'm really pleased with that.

"I think when the top teams have come here we've turned up and we see ourselves as one of the big teams.

"We knew today what they're based on structure and being solid so first and foremost we wanted to break their will and with that press we wanted to just run over them and I think for large portions of the game we did that.

"I wasn't happy with us in possession, I think we turned over the ball a bit too much. We could have hurt them a bit more in key areas.

"The work rate was always there but I think little bit of understanding. We done a lot of work through the season and I think the lads are really understanding what it's about and what the press is about and why we do the press and it's paid dividends."

Two new players were on show this evening, Michael Bakare and Ryan McLean.

"I think Bakare found the first half difficult in the sense of how we want our wide players to play. With the press and the pattern of play he's not been with us long so understanding that was difficult. You could see his mind ticking a little bit.

"But I said to him at half-time just be free.

"Obviously he's not been in long and these lads have been doing this for months. He was a bit freer in the second half and he got his goal and set up Camy's goal as well. He was lively."

Chris Camwell scored Hereford's second goal with a right-footed strike.

"We were doing it in training yesterday, he was doing free-kicks, He's got that in his locker.

"We were debating whether to take him off just before that so lucky we didn't.

"Camy has got that quality, match-winner, he's got technical ability in abundance, he's probably the most technical player we have in the squad.

"When he's on it, like he was today, pressing and winning the ball back, securing the ball in good areas, he did give the ball away in a few bad areas but you are going to get that with Camy sometimes but when he shows quality like that he's a big asset to the team."

What about McLean?

"We've known about Ryan for a while and we've been trying to get it sorted to get him in. We've got him in now and he's be a pleaser. The crowds will really love him.

"He works hard, he's an honest boy and you can see his pace, he's got pace in abundance. He's lively, he wants to run at people.

"He's a confident boy as well that's why he's got the number he's got, he asked for that number.

"He's from two leagues below but we think we can develope him and push him forward I think we've got a really good player on our hands."
