Melvin Powell With Ronnie Radford At Wembley |
Tributes have been paid to lifelong Hereford supporter Melvin Powell who died earlier today. He had followed the club for over 50 years.
Melvin, along with his wife Joyce, were part of the informal Tupsley Bulls fan group, travelling up and down the country to support the club.
Current Bulls player, James McQuilkin, who knew Melvin well from his previous spell at Edgar Street, told the club's OS: “I’m saddened to hear of Melvin’s passing. He was always so kind and friendly and would never be without a smile. He always had time for people and was deeply passionate about football. My thoughts are with Joyce and all the family during these sad times.”
The Powells, who are from Peterchurch, also grew close to former player Rob Purdie.
"It is such sad news to hear that Mel has passed away," he said.
"He, along with Joyce, are what make the Hereford fan base so strong and welcoming. Not only are they there to support the club, but are also friendly faces that would always ask how the family are. He was more than just a football fan. My thoughts are with Joyce at this sad time.”
Over the years Melvin and Joyce became very friendly with Ronnie and Annie Radford.

Melvin was formerly a maths teacher at The Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School.
Our thoughts go to Joyce, sons Elwyn and Gavin and their respective partners, Unyime and Ellie, as well as their friends and family.
