However, while the defence and midfield looks strong, the lack of strikers is clearly a worry for supporters.
At the time of writing, Hereford only had two out-and-out strikers on their books, although some of the midfielders do have the capability of playing along the front line.
A lot of pressure therefore rests on the shoulders of Lenell John-Lewis and it is vital that he stays fit if Hereford are to have any say in the promotion race this season.
And even if he does, Hereford would still need at least one, if not two more strikers to give Gowling more options. While Demetri Brown has a lot of potential, his injury problems are a worry and there has to be a question mark as to whether he can remain fit for large periods of time.
Every club craves for that 20-goal-a-season striker, but they cost money, something a lot of clubs (Hereford included) do not have in the current climate, so of course Gowling can't just throw money at the problem. Maybe he will have to dabble into the loan market and there will almost certainly be plenty of players at Football League clubs that will need game time. We will just have to wait and see.
Gowling also only has one goalkeeper on his books in Paul White. Even though it hasn't been confirmed, BN understands Brandon Hall has left the club, while Brandon Powell has gone to search for more first team opportunities. Rhys Lovett has been on trial so whether Gowling snaps him up remains to be seen.
Defence, on paper, looks very strong with Jamie Grimes, Jake Wright and Kennedy Digie looking like good signings that will add a lot of steel to the back line. Dan Jones and Chris Camwell offer options on the left, with Jared Hodgkiss being the first-choice right-back. Whether Toby Raison gets enough game time remains to be seen.
Gowling has also added a lot of midfielders to his squad in recent days. Andrai Jones and Ryan Lloyd offer options going forward, while former Hereford United player James McQuilkin and new recruit Giles Coke add plenty of experience. Yan Klukowski will also provide a lot of know-how both on and off the field, while Tom Owen-Evans and Kyle Finn will be looking to hit the ground running after indifferent times with the club last season. Likewise, Ben Pollock will be looking for plenty of games after an injury lay-off, while loan recruit Luke Haines adds a bit of quality However, the club could still do with a natural winger.
It is of course too early to predict how Hereford will do this season and no club will have played a competitive game for over six months. However, as with any season, the start you make usually dictates how you finish so lets hope Hereford pick up plenty of points in the first few months.
