Play-offs in National League North and South look increasingly unlikely, according to the Non-League Paper.
Divisional meetings are to take place online at 5pm today to discuss the outcome of the 2019/2020 season and when the next campaign could start.
However, it is understood that the National League wrote to clubs in the potential Step 2 play-off places last night (Wednesday) to explain that the government's policy when it comes to the resumption of elite sport doesn't include Step 2 football.
Therefore, there are fears the Step 2 play-offs can't be fitted in before next season. The 2020/2021 campaign is due to kick off on August 8, but there is an acceptance that non-league football can't resume without crowds.
The National League had been waiting for the outcome of the EFL's decision regarding promotion and relegation before deciding what to do with their three divisions.
On Tuesday, League One and League Two clubs opted to promote and relegate clubs using an unweighted points-per-game system and play out their play-offs.
Play-offs in the National League's top division are still a possibility but will have to meet strict guidelines.
