The former Hereford United defender joined me for a chat this afternoon. Watkiss made 21 appearances for the club during the latter part of the 1995/1996 season. His arrival coincided with the club going on a fantastic run and reaching the play offs.
It was a shock to supporters when Graham Turner released him the end of the season, an issue of Talking Bull revealed in a Turner interview that finances dictated that Watkiss had to leave, unfortunately Turner gambled on Quentin Townsend not being a flop, and Tony James not leaving for Plymouth. On hindsight releasing Watkiss backfired.
