We Need To Respond On Saturday Said Slade

In his post match interview after last night's exit from the FA Cup, Hereford manager Russell Slade was asked about how the players felt both physically and mentally.

"I think both," said Slade.

"Physically obviously, we've gone Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday and extra-time so it is all about recovery.

"It's not about tomorrow, it's not about Thursday, it's about doing it right in terms of looking after your body between now and Saturday but once that's done we need to respond in the best possible way on Saturday and ensure on that long journey we go up there and we come back with all the spoils."

Latest signing Ben Pollock came on in the second half.

"I thought he did quite well actually.

"He got straight into the game, won some headers, won some tackles.

"The only thing he did wrong in my opinion really was that he missed a penalty but he'll be bitterly disappointed about that. At least he had the guille to take one and enthusiasm to go and take one."

Had you practised penalties?

"I think if you are full time you get get out on that training ground and after Saturday's game you could have been practising them but we've not. It's up to players who have taken them in the past and have got that experience like some of ours have, and some of them have quite good records but didn't quite show it tonight.

"It's a lesson learnt, a hard lesson. Games are hard sometimes and tonight's tough but it's all about Saturday for me now. I will learn so much about the group."

Slade was asked about the referee's performance.

"I think it's the whole consistancy of it. When it's a restart where is he taking the free kick from, where is he taking the throw in from, is he consistant every single time, is a free kick worthy of a free kick, is it a yellow card or is it play on, just the consistancy of the game is sometimes frustrating as a manager.

"I know he's probably doing his best out there, it might be from his view a very solid sound performance but I couldn't agree with that in stages in the game."

Both Josh Gowling and Jordan Cullinane-Liburd were yellow carded in the first half, Gowling just a few minutes after the start.

"When referees do that early in the game, they set themselves up and then I want a reaction when it happens the other way on one of their players and that's where lies the consistancy or in-consistancy in everything that goes on in the game. It has to be right.

"You want it to be as fair as you possibly can, you want to see him taking control."
