Most Vocal Slade

Craig Elliot And Russell Slade
In his post match interview Hereford's newly installed first team manager Russell Slade said he thought it was the most vocal he had been for about ten years.

"Both sides set out with the same shapes, that's why I changed it at half-time just to try and give us a little more width and a little more threat going forward," said Slade.

"I thought they had the better of the first half.

"I thought we defended quite well first half and got some blocks in in and around the box to keep us firmly in the game.

"In the second period I thought we came into it a little bit and just had a couple of little half opportunities to try and get the first goal.

"It was one of those days when the first goal was going to be key but nobody got it in the end.

"The positives are that we have got a clean sheet but there are lots of things, I have the time now, to work on before our next game."

Several players were subbed because of injury. Riley, Jagger Cane and May.

"Martin Riley has popped his shoulder out so it's not great.

"We'll access it and see how he is, I thought he was very good today until he got his injury.

"But we've got a couple of weeks now, may be we can build up some momentum and hopefully those boys will be back with us soon.

"I felt for the player on the ball today because when we did win the ball back, actually we were giving it away in transition on that first pass or that second pass. But there were not always a lot of options for the player on the ball.

"That's something in possession we've got to work on.

"We've got to work a lot harder to find and create a little bit of space, because then we can move forward."

It's two weeks to the next game.

"It helps, it would be nice to have them every day but we'll use Saturday as well to work on it so it will give us five or six sessions now and that can only help as we move forward for sure.

"Some of the younger players were asked to come on today.

"Tommy has done some good things but they've got to be ready as well in terms of mentality and fitness because I felt we faded in both halves, end of the game and the end of the first half,

"The games are 96 minutes and they had a free kick in the 96th minute and that could have been the difference today.

"I want it to be us who is having the free kick in the last minute to see if we can win a football match.

"Boston saw that our centre half had gone off and they sent the guy from the land of the giants on, he must be about six foot six, to try and upset us but we managed to keep him out and fair play to Pope he slotted back in there at centre half and done a job for us.

"That's the positive really, you go out with the intention that if you don't conceed a goal you've given yourself a chance and fair play to the lads, Boston scored five last week and we've managed to keep a clean sheet.

"It's starting point, not loads of positives but that is one of them."

Slade was quite vocal on the touchline.

"If the players are going to sit as deep as they were at times today then I will be very vocal.

"We've got to get up the pitch because if we don't get up the pitch we can't compete for the second balls and we need to be winning more things in the opposing half.

"If we are back here on our heels then we are going to be able to do that.

"We need to be winning those individual battles and those 50/50's because that's what changes games."

Slade hopes to bring a new coach in next week.

"As a club regrouping now, manager is in, coach with a bit of luck will be in next week and we'll be set to go again."

Looking forward Slade said there may be a practice match next Saturday.

"That's what I'd like to do, if it's not a practice match this Saturday we will be working this Saturday."
