“Club historian Ron Parrott is stumped! At the end of last season,
Hereford United/Hereford FC had fielded a total of 1,493 different
players in the Club’s history and with the first competitive game of the
new season rapidly approaching, Ron was keenly
waiting to see if the 1,500th player would take to the field against
Spennymoor Town. Sure enough, he did but the trouble was that there were
seven debutants in the starting line-up and this has put Ron in a bit
of a dilemma.
He comments: “I was looking forward
to celebrating the historic occasion but with seven new faces against
Spennymoor Town, how on earth do I decide just who was our 1,500th
player. If I do it alphabetically, it would be Reece Styche and if I do
it numerically, it would also be Reece Styche so
in the absence of a more definitive method of deciding, stand up Reece
Styche, you have the honour of becoming Hereford’s 1,500th player to
make an appearance for the Club!”
Ron also goes on to say “later in the
season, we should also be looking at two more
milestones. We need two more goals to make it a round 500 goals scored
by the Club in the FA Cup and in the FA Trophy, the next player to score
a goal will become our 50th player to score in that competition – lets
hope it’s not an own-goal!”
