After this afternoon's friendly at Bideford, Hereford head coach Marc Richards gave his view on the game and the weekend. He also spoke about new signing Simone May and the friendly against Cheltenham on Wednesday.
"I thought the second half was better than the first half in terms of the performance," said Richards.
"We're not quite where we need to be in spells in the game.
"Still a bit of work to do in the two and a half weeks to the start of the season but some positive signs. As a weekend overall it's been brilliant.
"Pre-season is about looking at the group of players that we have got in, a lot of new faces, and it's trying to make sure that we are playing to their strengths.
"You saw that today in terms of the physical presence of some of the players we had out there today which we know is needed in the National North. It's been part of our thinking in who we've gone to recruit.
"We've got eight games in August, we know we'll probably pick up some injuries along the way so it's important that different players can fit into different positions when needed."
Several players didn't take part today.
"Tommy O'Sullivan sat out today, he was feeling his ankle during the game on Friday. He landed on his back and thought it was that but it was his ankle that was playing out.
"Tom Owen-Evans similar so I didn't want to risk him and Symo still feeling his ankle so there was no point in giving him any minutes today.
"It was great to get (Jason) Popey on the pitch. Sine he's come in he's been a great addition to the squad but we haven't had him in a competitive game. Didn't want to push him with ninety minutes today but it was great for him to get sixty minutes and I thought he looked good.
"Simeon May, I think again we saw glimpses of what he's got, great feet, energetic, he can get around the park, he can compete and I thought he did really well in there with Kane."
The next friendly is against Cheltenham at Edgar Street on Wednesday evening.
"We know a bit about them since Duff has been in there and I know a few of their coaching staff.
"So you are kind of aware of what they might do and how they might play but the focus is purely on us."
As regards numbers?
"We're not a million miles off but if there are any players out there that can improve what we have currently got we will also look to try and improve the squad.
"There is not necessarily room (in the budget) but in terms of how we would have to work it with the current squad then, that's why it's nice to have Tim (Harris) to lean on in that respect."
