Kinnersley To Return To The Len Weston

Ken Kinnersley is set to return to the Len Weston Stand next season after he steps down as Hereford FC chairman in ten days time.

Before the 'new' club was formed Kinnersley along with his wife sat near the clock which is in the middle of the stand.

Kinnersley was born in Stanhope Street which is close to Bulmers in Hereford.

"I remember horse-drawn carts full of apples going into Bulmers and the whiff of cider."

He first started to watch the Bulls at the age of 13.

Initially he was in the police.

"I left the police to do three years in the army with the intention of coming back to Hereford.

"However I arrived at the training centre and on the first day because I had learnt to march in the police I was told I was in charge of 30 others. For the next four months I marched them around the place."

Kinnersley's military career took him all over the world including postings in Hong Kong, Borneo and Germany. He specialised in criminal investigation work.

In total he spent 27 years in the army and another 27 years in the civil service for Defra. During that time he always looked to see how Hereford United were doing especially when the club was in League Two.

"However I don't think I watched a game from 1964 to early 2000's.

"From then to 2010 we travelled from Peterborough to Hereford for every game.

"We knew we were coming back here to live eventually."

How did he first become involved with the club?

"I used to be a member of HUISA.

"But with all that was going on with the demise and with Agombar moving in, I didn't think the objective of HUISA was appropriate for the people running the football club - that was to support the football club.

"I put a formal motion to the HUISA AGM to wind it up and that was carried.

"I couldn't see any point in carrying on like that.

"But that wasn't the only reason as I think Keith Dodd and others had had enough. Nobody was willing to take it over. I think it came to a natural end."

Later Kinnersley became CEO of Hereford FC and in 2017 chairman of the club with all that entails.

Next season he will be back in the Len Weston.

How much he will miss the boardroom remains to be seen.
