Hereford FC captain Josh Gowling felt the performance against Boston yesterday was 'nowhere near good enough'. Hereford lost the game 2-0.
And he was too happy about the penalty award against him that led to Boston's second goal.
"This week we wanted to go out with a bang, put in a good performance, score some goals, get the win but we came up short," said Gowling.
"I think sometimes at the end of the season you get them games, but in our minds we didn’t turn up to perform like that. In our minds we wanted to put a stamp on it and give us some momentum into next season. That was our theory behind it, our thought process.
"It was just flat. You get them days sometimes where the whole team doesn’t really perform and it was one of those days.
"We created some chances in the game, we could have been a couple of goals up at half-time and could have had a couple in the second half.
"It you look at it chances wise we did alright but performance wise it was nowhere near good enough.
"The first half was difficult with long balls because of the wind so the ball was moving a bit but we weren’t really troubled.
"Their first goal has come from a poor set piece and the second goal has come from a penalty and apart from that they haven’t had anything in the game which is frustrating.
"We had a plan and that was to put a show on for the fans and ourselves. If you look where we were before Christmas we were in real deep trouble, so to be able to get out of that and be comfortable and to stay in the league next season was good, but we want to keep pushing on and keep striving and we wanted to get into that top half of the league. We didn’t do that.
"We will get it right and we’ve come on a lot this season and, like I said, before Christmas we were in the abyss I suppose so we’ve come on a lot but we 've got to get that more bit more consistency."
Interviewee Keith Hall suggested the spine of the team was there but it needs more quality.
"That's the Gaffer's job really. He'll speak to all the lads this week, he spoken to some already then it's looking at targets. He wants to make sure attitudes are right, that's a big thing in a little group.
"I was at Grimsby for a couple of years and the fans are the same there, they expect teams to win and this team has gone on a couple of years winning and going through leagues.
"I think you get to a stage where the league gets better and the opposition gets better and then you don’t win as many games as you would like.I think that's where we've got to.
"Next season we want to kick on, that's the plan, and challenge for things.
"One thing I would say about this football club, I have been at a lot of League clubs and Conference clubs, this football club does things properly.
"We have a heartrate monitors and we do analysis, we have got great facilities and we work hard. This football club is professional on and off the field. That was one of the reasons why I came here and what drew me to the football club.
"And it’s one of the reasons why I have enjoyed it so much. I've come here and it's been a breath of fresh air. The lads are spoilt at this level as what we do on a day-to-day basis and we have analysis and we have things sent to us after the games.
"Those are things you don’t get even at a lot of clubs even at a high level."
Boston's second goal came after the referee gave a spot kick.
"I kind of kicked the ball away slightly. I didn’t touch him, he just fell over,.
"Did anyone appeal for it? I’m not sure they did. The referee
looked at it for a while and he wasn’t sure and then he just gave it.
"It was a poor decision and it was the softest penalty I have ever given away."
Did Hereford also have a shout for a penalty when Kyle Finn appeared to be brought down?
"I thought so, if he gives the one he has to give the other.
"I'm not a referee, he's more qualified than me. I'm might get fined!"
