After this afternoon's defeat at Southport, Hereford head coach spoke to the press.
"It came down to two set-pieces," said Richards.
"They scored theirs and we missed the penalty.
"I think that was the one bit of quality that was in the game in terms of their free kick that they scored from. I don't think there was much quality out there.
"It was difficult, windy, the pitch was very difficult to play on as well. It definitely wasn't one for spectacle football.
"It was really difficult in the first period but I still wanted the boys to try and play, I still think we had opportunities to play a bit more than what we did in the first half. We created a few chances but it was miminal. There were no real clear chances for either side.
"Like I said it came down to two set-pieces and that was the difference today."
Their goal came from a Hereford mistake.
"Danny has put his hand up. To be fair to him obviously he's given away the free kick and it's also his man. All the lads are given who they need to be picking up and fair play to him he's put his hand up. Obviously it doesn't make it any easier but at least he's had the bravery to do that."
Both James Waite and Kyle Finn had chances
"Frustrated because I've been talking to the boys who play in wide positions to make sure that they get in and make sure they are in and around even the front post sometimes from the opposite wing.
"We saw James' header and then Finny came in with a volley, probably two of the better chances of the game.
"It did have the feel of that sort of end of season game similar to the Alfreton one where two who aren't competing for anything . We want to make sure that the season doesn't fizzle out like I've been saying so frustrated with the result and the overall performance was difficult because of the conditions.
"I think for both teams it wasn't a pretty game at all. They are pretty direct in the way they play and the way they set up. They've got some big lads in their squad, obviously long throws, wide free kicks, corners is what they were playing for a lot of the time and unfortunately we didn't deal with the one that cost us."
Hereford's penalty? With Tom Owen-Evans subbed, Tommy O'Sullivan took it.
"I thought it was a penalty. It gave us an opportunity to potentially come away with a point but frustrating. Tommy is obviously gutted. It's one of those things unfortunately.
"Owen-Evans was feeling his groin, feeling it towards the end of the first half. I gave him five or ten minutes in the second half and he was still struggling so I made the change."
No Keiran Thomas?
"He's been to the doctors, he's had a scan. There's nothing in terms of a clot there but he's still feeling it.
"He went for a jog on Thursday and on Friday and just wasn't right so he didn't travel today."
