Police have told residents and businesses in Chorley to expect some disruption next Saturday when Stockport play at Victory Park.
The game might decide who takes the National North title. Currently Stockport top the table with Chorley in second place with one point less.
3600 are expected to watch the game according to the Lancashire Police.
"There will of course be plenty of friendly rivalry among both sets of supporters and I am sure all fans want to enjoy the occasion and be entertained in a safe environment.
"We’ve worked closely with both football clubs in the planning of the match and our priority is to keep people safe, as well as minimising disruption to the town centre.
"Extra officers will be on hand to assist supporters attending the match along with stewards from both clubs."
Meanwhile Hereford Police are still investigating trouble between rival supporters around Edgar Street last Saturday week when Hereford drew 1-1 with Stockport.
