Richards Won't Use The Pitch As An Excuse After "Awful" Game

Hereford Head Coach Marc Richards denied that the pitch made today's game difficult and instead said there was a lot of "sloppiness" amongst his players.

Richards said that the game would've been a poor game to watch for a neutral with very limited action in front of either goal.

Richards said: "It was an awful game. I've just said to the lads that's probably one of our worst performances of the season, yet we've come away with a 1-0 win.

"We've probably had games where we've been on the wrong end of the result but had a really good performance, so I suppose it's evened itself out.

"It was an awful game of football!

"At this stage of the season, glad we got the result, but the performance levels were nowhere near where we have been.

"If you look in the last ten, our performance levels have been pretty good, but that today was nowhere near where we need to be."

When asked by BBC reporter Kieth Hall whether the pitch had an impact on the game, saying it was like an articular surface, Richards said it's playing well.

He added: "I'm not going to use that as an excuse at all, the pitch is playing well, there's no issues with that. There was a lot of sloppiness out there today which we haven't seen in previous week.

"Up until about the 70th minute I think about the only chance for both teams was Symo's, that was it. There was such limited action on both goals that it would've been a poor game to watch from a neutral's perspective."

Kyle Finn came off in the second half with some fans concerned it could be his hamstring, but instead Richards said it was just cramp.

Of the four forwards today, the Head Coach felt he was the brightest.

"I think he'd ran that much he'd got cramp, it wasn't a hamstring pull or anything like that. He probably got through that much yardage he was starting to feel his hamstring.

"He was probably the liveliest one of our front four, when you look at who was up there, maybe a few boys weren't on it like they have been in previous weeks.

"Just pleased to get that all-important three points at this stage of the season."
