Hereford's 1-0 win against fellow strugglers Guiseley was ugly and wasn't enjoyable to play in, said forward Tom Owen-Evans.
The 22-year-old said it was nice to get the three points as Josh Gowling scored the only goal of the game.
Owen-Evans said: "It wasn't enjoyable to play in, I'm sure it wasn't enjoyable for the fans to watch it.
"It was a must-win game for us to get us clear from the relegation zone we've done it, done it ugly.
"A few months ago I think we might have lost that game, so even though the quality wasn't there today, we'll hold our hands up and say that, it's nice to get the three points and do it the ugly way."
When asked if the players were nervous, Owen-Evans said he had no idea why the Bulls seemed flat.
He added: "It wasn't nerves, it was just a bit flat. I'm not sure why, maybe it's because we haven't played in a while, but I'm not sure what the reason was. No one could really get going, the game was a bit dead and there wasn't much for the fans to shout about.
"I can't put my finger on it, but it's nice to get the three points after we played like that."
"There's no excuses from us, we should've done better in the game today."
